Beginner & Intermediate Coaching

Before joining us, you will fill out a form that provides our team with information about your surfing level, beginner or intermediate, and what you hope to practice during the coaching retreat.

You may feel “in between” the levels mentioned below; this is completely normal. Every surfer progresses at their own pace. The levels below help you determine if our coaching is suitable for you and outline the technical aspects we typically focus on. Our team will provide personalized technical feedback regardless of your selected level.

Beginner surf Coaching

Level 1

Beginner Surf Coaching

“I've never tried surfing / I've tried surfing a few times"

You will focus on:

  • Paddling techniques
  • Basic surfing equipment
  • Security aspects
  • Surf etiquette
  • Proper surf stance
  • Breaking & accelerating
  • Passing the break
  • How to pop up on a surfboard

 

Depending on your level, you could work on catching unbroken waves, angling the take-off and start turning!

Beginner with limited experience

“I'm starting to catch unbroken waves & to angle my take offs"

You could focus on:

  • Reviewing the basics from Level 1.1
  • Improving take off & paddling techniques
  • Learning to catch unbroken waves
  • Improving your wave reading & positioning
  • Angling your take-off to go either left or right
  • Improving your stance to gain more mobility
  • Understanding how to trim on a wave

As A Beginner

Why should you get this coaching?

Surfing has a long progression curve, and learning the correct basic techniques from the start is key to efficient and enjoyable progress. Our surf coaches will take the time to analyze your technique, ensuring you avoid developing bad habits and master the essentials, which will help you advance to the next level more quickly. Even if you have taken a few surf lessons in the past, you will likely benefit from this level of coaching.

Intermediate surf Coaching

Level 2

Intermediate Surfer

“I'm learning to do turns & generate more speed”

You could focus on:

  • Generating speed on a wave
  • Improving wave reading & positioning skills
  • Polishing your take-off & its speed
  • Choosing equipment for specific conditions
  • Duck dives
  • Improving your stance to gain mobility
  • Learning the basics of bottom turns & top turns

Intermediate transitioning to an Advanced Surfer

“I'm improving manoeuvres such as cutbacks & top turns"

You could focus on:

  • Increasing your ability to generate speed
  • Improving your positioning to catch better waves
  • Improving how you propel yourself toward the wave’s face (bottom turns)
  • Improving your top turns (positioning on the wave, upper body rotation, rail-to-rail transition, etc.)
  • Learn or improve your cutbacks

 

Depending on your level, you could learn to do floaters, re-entries (snaps) or roundhouse cutbacks

As an Intermediate

Why should you get this coaching?

Surfing is addictive; the better you surf, the more you love it! This coaching is designed to identify the important changes you can bring to your technique that will make the biggest difference in your surfing and your fun in the water! You will receive personalized tips on how to surf and what to improve. These can make a difference in many aspects, such as the quality of the waves you pick, the speed you can generate, your agility on the wave, etc.
