Working as a surf coach with Barefoot Surf
We are driven by our never-ending quest to offer the ultimate surf coaching retreats for beginner and intermediate surfers.
Our surf coaching roles involve travelling to one of our tropical retreat locations in Central America or Indonesia. We’re a tight-knit team dedicated to delivering an unforgettable experience to our guests.
🏄🏻 Surf Coaching Position
Typical weekly tasks:
Organize surf schedules for your small group of surfers (typically 1 coach per 2 guests)
Lead surf theory classes and technical surf workshops (we’ll provide training for this)
Capture and analyze surf footage with your students after each session
Provide personalized coaching, including beach selection, board adjustments, and technical recommendations
Help coordinate transport and non-surf activities
Take on additional responsibilities depending on the destination
Positions We Don’t Offer
We’re committed to supporting local communities at all our destinations. That’s why we don’t offer roles for in-water coaching or hospitality (cooking, cleaning, transportation, etc.) or accept volunteers or general travel hosts. The only available position is that of a professional surf coach.
Who we're looking for
- Minimum 2 years of surf coaching experience
- Genuine passion for surfing and teaching
- Motivated, resourceful, and professional
- Team player with a strong sense of integrity
- Comfortable working internationally for 4+ months per year

📸 In-water photographer
We occasionally offer opportunities for freelance in-water photographers to join our surf retreats. This is ideal for experienced photographers who already have their own gear and want to work in tropical surf destinations.
To be eligible, you must:
Have professional in-water surf photography experience
Own your own camera, housing, and all necessary equipment
Be comfortable shooting in various surf conditions
You’ll be responsible for capturing high-quality surfing shots of our guests throughout the retreat and offering optional photography packages for sale directly to them.
This is a great opportunity for someone who’s passionate about surf photography and wants to collaborate with a fun, inspiring team.
